Case Study 3 - Dulin United Methodist Church

Dulin United Methodist Church
Falls Church, VA

“Before, we could never keep up with the cold. Now we just turn the heat on, and it stays in the building. Complaints are way down, and we’re very happy.”

— Rev. M. Davies Kirkland,
Pastor, Dulin United Methodist Church

The only down-side to having new, triple-paned Hodges windows in his church’s education building and fellowship hall, jokes Pastor Dave Kirkland, is that the childrens’ mobiles stand still. Previously, the 50- and 100-year-old casement windows at Dulin United Methodist Church were so inefficient that a steady stream of air would keep the mobiles spinning in the Sunday school rooms, even with the windows shut.

Kirkland explains that in 2006, the church decided to replace its obsolete windows. Church trustees called around to get quotes, and found that Hodges not only had a great price but was the most responsive. “They did great work for us,” says Kirkland, recalling how clean the workers left the site. He adds that the Hodges team worked around the church’s schedule to minimize disruption.

Church officials were thoroughly satisfied with the results, and Kirkland adds that he has even recommended the company to members of his church. “We wanted to address the issue of drafts, and we also wanted nicer-looking windows,” Kirkland explains. “We feel like we got two solutions in one.” After going through his first winter with the new windows, Kirkland observes, “Before, we could never keep up with the cold. Now we just turn the heat on, and it stays in the building. Complaints are way down, and we’re very happy.”
